I am Oliver Chen, producer of Somewhere Else. If you know me personally, you probably have already heard about this project. Feel free to donate now and I wouldn't blame you for skipping my upcoming heartfelt appeal :p.
This is a short film written and directed by my friend Terre Nguyen. Terre made his international debut by presenting his first short film “Uncle and Son” at various film festivals, including the prestigious Outfest, Frameline, and Image+Nation Film Festival in 2013. This Vietnamese fable brought to life shows how a young boy’s naïveté threatens the precious relationship with his gay uncle. The film won the hearts of audiences across the world and as one reviewer put it: "I love the film’s lyricism and its quiet beauty that belies so much emotion."
As Terre's second short film, Somewhere Else (The case of Huy) tells a complex story about love, desire, and betrayal, and explores the innermost struggle of two gay men between ideal and reality. The film is not trying to answer all the hard questions we face in life, but rather to provoke thinking about the relationships we let ourselves in. Somewhere Else is a place to be free, to let go and to fall in love.
We would love Somewhere Else to be a place in your heart too, if it first gets a chance to be introduced to your eyes. We truly hope you can help us present the film to the world and we sincerely appreciate your support!
